Namkhana Island is surrounded by two islands: Mousùni and Sagar Dwip in the west, and Pathar Pratima and Rakshaskhali in the North-East, which are inhabited. The holiest pilgrimage place: Temple of Kapil Muni is located in the extreme southern beach of Sagar Dwip - popularly known as Gangasagar. On the other, the famous crocodile project at Bhagabatpur is located eastern coast of Pather Pratima. AMRITA generally organises a day-trip for moderate groups of around 20 people, to make it economy, to visit Gangasagar as well as Jambu Dwip in launches. Similar trip is also organized to visit crocodile project at Bhagabatpur. The trip starts from AMRITA around 8.30 morning, takes you to Namkhana, and then you board the launch over the river: Hetania-Doania to reach Benubon - a ferry ghat in the eastern side of Sagar Dwip. From there one is to travel to the Kapil Muni Temple (Ashram) through local transport: Auto/Toto/Car as are usually available. The return journey via Jambu Dwip reaches Namkhana around 5.30 evening. During the journey the guests are provided with breakfast and tea on board, then lunch in the launch while you return from Gangasagar and board the launch to visit Jambu Deep. Before reaching Namkhana river bank, tea with snacks are also provided.Now you come back to AMRITA and do whatever you like. The trip to Bhagbatpur is planned in the same way: take your breakfast on board, visit Pakhiraloy, a wide range of birds, etc, enjoy the beauty of Sundarbans, and touch Rakshaskhali & Bhagbatpur. You spent your good time in the crocodile project - observing the entire process: from hatching to grownup crocodiles. This is really worth visiting for all, atleast if you have kids with you in the group. Once you board the launch visiting crocodile project, your fabulous lunch is ready and enjoy it, while the launch is sailing through coasts of ever green islands. Finally you return to AMRITA via NAMKHANA.

Kapil Muni Ashram is a famous holy place on Sagardwip (Sagar Island) in the Sundarbans, West Bengal.
